Which is better between extracted oil or pressed oil ? BTMA

Edible oil is mainly produced by solvent extraction and pressing. More than 80% of edible oil processing plants use solvent extraction to extract fats, and less than 20% of edible oil is produced by pressing. Extracted oil dominates the edible oil market with its high yield and low refined oil price. In recent years, under the banner of “health and safety”, oil extraction has vigorously entered the edible oil market and has been recognized by the majority of enterprises and consumers.

When purchasing edible oil, many consumers regard pressing and extracting as a criterion for distinguishing the quality of edible oil. They believe that the squeezed oil is produced by mechanical methods, while the leached oil is produced by adding chemical solvents. The former is safer to eat. . And many businesses often tell consumers this way: “Extruded oil is a green, pure and natural food, the healthiest; while the leaching oil is refined by chemical methods, there are chemical solvent residues, and it is not safe.”

Is this really the case? A member of the National Cereals and Oils Standardization Technical Committee and a senior engineer who participated in the drafting of a number of new national edible vegetable oil standards, said: “The pressing method and the leaching method are just two different oil preparation processes. Whether it is leaching oil or squeezing oil, as long as it meets the requirements of my country Edible oil quality standards and hygiene standards are all safe edible oils.

WHAT IS PRESSED OIL?

The pressing method is a purely physical process of sorting, roasting, and pressing through a screw press without adding chemicals. It retains the rich nutrients in the oil and ensures the safety of the product. The oil produced is pure, nutritious and delicious, which meets the needs of human health and is suitable for long-term consumption. But the disadvantage of oil pressure is its low yield. At present, the “oil pressing method” is mainly used to produce high-end products, such as peanut oil, olive oil, nut oil, and sesame oil.

WHAT IS THE EXTRACTED OIL?

Solvent extraction is achieved by fully immersing raw materials and solvent oil, high-temperature extraction and oil refining processes. The most important feature of solvent extraction is high oil yield and low production cost. However, in the extraction process, solvent residues inevitably exist in the oil.

Both oil extraction and oil extraction must be refined to become food grade oil products. The squeezed or extracted oil is not edible. In the production process of edible oil products, alkali refining, bleaching, and deodorization can be used to remove impurities in the oil to make it meet national standards. These two oils have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the quality of edible oil is determined by the operations in the production process. As long as its manufacturing operations meet the standards, it can be safely eaten.

From the perspective of safety and environmental protection, the quality of oil extraction is mostly pure oil, because it retains the original nutrients; and oil extraction products can hardly satisfy people’s consumer psychology of pursuing natural and environmental protection. From the perspective of nutrition and health, oil extraction is better than oil extraction.
